Anti-wrinkle injections are the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment on the market today. They are used to treat fine facial lines as well as folds. Anti-wrinkle injections contain a substance called Botulinum Toxin A, which works by blocking a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. This neurotransmitter is essential for muscle contraction. Inhibiting this substance therefore reduces muscle contraction in targeted areas, therefore causing wrinkles to soften in appearance as well as lifting facial features, providing a more youthful look.
What does it involve?
This procedure is performed in the comforts of one of our luxury clinics, as a day-case procedure. The treatment itself is administered as a series of superficial injections using a very fine needle. This is usually well-tolerated, and you are unlikely to find this painful. After the procedure, you will be able to go home and continue with your normal day-to-day activities. You do not require any time off work, and there is no recovery period.
Is this treatment safe?
Yes - Anti-wrinkle injections are low-risk treatments with minimal complications. However, any procedure is associated with some risks. These will be discussed with you in detail during your free initial consultation. It is important to note that anti-wrinkle treatment is contra-indicated in pregnant women.
After treatment
After your procedure, it is advised that you do not lie flat for 4 hours to avoid the spread of the product to undesired muscle areas. Furthermore, you should avoid drinking alcohol and carrying out any strenuous exercise, as well as taking certain medications (NSAIDs) such Aspirin & Ibuprofen for approximately 24 hours.
How long do the results of the treatment last?
You start to see the effects of your treatment within the first 2-3 days, however, optimum treatment results are achieved in the first 2 weeks. These results usually last for 3-6 months.
