Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injections containing a gel-like substance (most commonly hyaluronic acid) used to enhance a person’s appearance. It is a non-surgical aesthetic treatment that produces instant results. Although these dermal fillers can be used on other body areas, the most common use is to rejuvenate specific facial features. They can help add volume to areas such as the cheeks and lips, and can also smooth out wrinkles and fill out deep lines. Dermal fillers can provide many benefits of a surgical facelift without the risks and recovery time associated with the surgery.

What does it involve?

This procedure is performed in the comforts of one of our luxury clinics, as a day-case procedure. On the day of your planned treatment, you will be offered topical anaesthetic cream to numb the treatment area. The treatment itself is administered as a series of superficial injections using a very fine needle. This is usually well-tolerated, and although may be slightly uncomfortable, you are unlikely to find this painful. In between the injections, the doctor may massage the treatment area to achieve the desired result. After the procedure, you will be able to go home and continue with your normal day-to-day activities. You do not require any time off work, and there is no recovery period.

Is the treatment safe?

In general this treatment is safe, and complications are rare. Furthermore, there is an antidote to the dermal filler if needed at the time of procedure. Every procedure does carry a small degree of risk. This will be discussed in detail during your free initial consultation.

After treatment

During your consultation, our doctor will go through your specific aftercare. In general there is no downtime and you can simply go back to your day to day activities without hindrance. You may be asked to avoid the sun, alcohol, and NSAIDs for 24 hours post-procedure.

How long do fillers last?

Dermal fillers are not permanent and will naturally biodegrade over time. They last between 6 - 12 months.
