Ordination of the Patriarch of Eritrea and agreement of the Protocol
After adopting the protocol of the relationship between the two Churches
During the Vespers and Liturgy of the Feast of St. Mark 08 May 1998, His Holiness Pope Shenouda III participated with the Metropolitans and Bishops, members of the Holy Synod of the Coptic and Eritrean Churches, in the ordination and the coronation of His Holiness Father Philip I, as the first Patriarch of the Eritrean Church.
The Protocol of the relationship between the two Churches was signed on the evening of the same day, when the two Churches signed it in a joyful official ceremony, after the Protocol was adopted by the two Holy Synods.
The text of the Protocol was signed by His Holiness the Pope and members of the Holy Synod of our Church during the Vespers of the ordination, when the invitation was extended to members of the Holy Synod to attend.
Attached to Appendix No. 7is a copy of the English-language protocol signed by the two Heads of the two Churches, as well as the Arabic translation of the same text).
