Return of monastic life to the Convent of St. Demiana

  1. The Synod issued a decree recognising the return of monastic life to the Monastery of St. Demiana for Nuns, the Wilderness of Belqas. His Holiness the Pope, together with twenty of the Bishops, returned monastic life to this monastery on 24 September 1978. During the episcopate of His Grace Bishop Bishoy, Bishop of Damietta, Kafr El-Sheikh and the Wilderness, a copy of the historical document restoring monastic life to this monastery, signed by His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, and the members of the Holy Synod, was attached in the documents of the Synod. This became the sixth convent among the nunnery convents in our Coptic Orthodox Church.
  2. The Holy Synod decided not to ordain nuns in cities without belonging to an official convent.
